Ron Burkhardt - HO
Grain Xtra
Ron Burkhardt's layout - HO

...It's autumn, 1973 and the Grain Xtra East is approaching Armstrong Mountain. Ron's layout occupies 22x58 ft, with 350 ft single track mainline and a 100 ft branchline. Double-deck (no helix) requiring helper operations, allows mountain-to-prairie transition realistically. The scenery is about 40% completed. Early BN, DRGW, some CPR, and the Montana & Salt Lake Railway. High density bridge route connecting Spokane WA and Cranbrook BC with Ogden UT with staging yards representing them. Rail Lynx infrared command control system, no cords, no computers. Basic timetable/dispatcher operation with verbal orders on radio headsets.

1) 2) 3)
4) 5)

1) The Oregon short line as it heads into the mountains after it departs from the main lines in Granger, Wyoming.
2) The UP turbine is a common site as it pulls its load into the Green River Basin.
3) Sunsets over the desert can be brilliant site, but employees at the granite facility keep on working as they have seen it many times before.
4) Dispatcher room with scratch built CTC panel.
5) Backdrops and scenery have always been a favorite part of the hobby for me. This particular backdrop mimics the actually scene just East of Green River Yard.

Chuck Tuttle's HO
Salt Creek and Eastern Railroad

The Salt Creek and Eastern Railroad is a freelance HO railroad with an eastern flavor. With over 400 feet of single track mainline and several online towns, there's plenty of activity during an operating session to keep several crews busy. If you like to dispatch, work the yard, switch local industries, run helpers, or run main line trains, there's something here for you. Operation is by timetable and trainorder. Train control is by Digitrax. Visit the Salt Creek and Eastern Railroad
