Kokomo Area Layouts

Kokomo Model Railroad Club - HO
This HO layout depicts the Appalachian coal mining area and focuses on prototypical operation. An operational CTC Board allows the Dispatcher to monitor up to 6 trains simultaneously. An operating coal mine is another major feature of this layout. There are two traditional yards and a vertical storage area with 3 divisions operating out of these yards. Other interesting features include the 400 feet of Main Line. This must be seen to be appreciated.

Denny Baker - HO

Steve Ball - HO

Les Cattin
Les models in 2 scales, N and On30. The top deck it the On30 with all hand laid track and turn outs. The bottom deck is the N scale layout. A complete loop of track is done for each scale with some sidings in also, and about 25% of the scenery is done.

Art Dorneman - NMRA
The BBC RR is a free lanced layout that features 3 scratch built wooden trestle bridges and lots of detailed scenes including working head and tail light in all the cars on the roads. Art claims that the layout is only 90% done.

Bill & Mike Gilbert - NMRA
A father and son team modeling in N scale. An 8' x 21' dual main line, cab controlled layout featuring a Tehachapi loop. Running modern power and 65 car or longer trains. Scenery is a work in progress, the track is down and the trains are running well. You won't see any derailments unless someone forgets to throw a switch.

Al Gollner - HO

Norwood Hall - HO (NMRA)

Dick Harrison - NMRA
The Lehigh & Western in a 12 X 18 foot second floor room features a single-track folded dog-bone layout with an automatic block control system. Three trains can run simultaneously and the two...

Lee Johnson - NMRA
Lee has recently re-started his layout by doubling the size of his layout building. He now has about 90% of a complete loop of track done that includes about a 9 ft. diameter helix. Lee models the Lee Lines, the Louisville & Nashville, and the Pennsylvania, in HO.

Tom Morris - NMRA
Tom invites you to take a ride on the Santa Fe in 1976 next year, but this year it's the 50's, with plenty of steam still on the road. Tom changes eras every October. A 17 x 17 multi deck layout that he started in 1976 and is fully scenicked. With several scratch built and kitbashed structures, rail equipment and vehicles.

Gary Sherrill - NMRA
Modeling the Nickel Plate, Monon, and the Pennsylvania RR's on a layout out of the Atlas book with a 12 ft +. extension added. All the track is in and about 50% of the scenery. There is plenty of switching here using car-cards and waybills and interchanging with 2 other layouts.

Carl Stahl - NMRA
Carl has the first Lionel train that his dad got for him more than 50 years ago. And now has quite a collection of high railers. He has been working on this 32 x 52 ft. purpose built room above his garage for about 14 years. A walk around freelanced Lionel RR that's with about 80% of the scenery done. Several special built bridges and a scratch built round-house, (ask Carl what he made the round-house walls of).

City Scene Jim Thomas - HO - NMRA
Jim Thomas. Past President & Co-Founder of the Midwestern Model Railroad Club, has an HO layout that is 20' x 30'. He named it 'The Chicago Terminal' and it simulates a railroad like the 'Indiana Harbor Belt'. The line depicts the area from Chesterton, Indiana to McCook, Illinois. The main yard is 5' x 12' and there is a large metropolitan area. There is a large grain elevator complex & power plant. Jim's passenger station is 14 feet long and features 8 tracks. he has double and four track main lines.

Pictures of Jim's layout are here
