FALL LAYOUT TOUR – KOKOMO AREA 2009

Don Rash
Don's layout is a 16 by 20 O scale incorporating a switching yard with three main lines. There is also a trolley line. Don's models consist of MTH and Williams mostly steam and early diesel. His time period is 40's and 50's in the Appalachian Mountains. Don models Christmas and a transition into summer scenery. He operates with MTH DCC system. Don's main interest in the hobby is a collector. He also has a G gauge garden railroad.

Steve Ball
Steve's layout is 17 by 22 double deck with a helix, 95% of the track work done with code 83 rail. He models Norfolk Southern and the EJ&E with the layout being built for operations. He uses car card and waybill system with a round robin group where they manually interchange cars to different home layouts. The local he models is from Northwest Indiana to Chicago. Steve powers his railroad with DCC Digitrax. Layout construction is cork roadbed on L-girder.

Dick Harrison
Dick's layout is an electronics dream. Dick has sound throughout the different industries also all buildings and streets are lighted. He models the Leigh & Western RR running from Easton Pa. To Maybrook NY. This layout is DC with automatic block control system and the engines have onboard sound. Dick has a 3-cab system and the system knows where each train is at all times. Layout is 95% scenic. Dick's layout was built in 1989 using code 70 and some 83 rails with 35 switches, it is laid out as a folded dog bone. He has a single main with a run of 250 feet. His time period is from the 40's to the 50's. Dick's main interest in the hobby is the electronics. . Layout construction is cork roadbed on L-girder.

Lee Johnson
Lee has a separate building (70 by 24 feet) that houses his HO railroad. This layout is DCC Digitrax with 30% scenic. Lee's layout will be double deck with a helix. This freelanced layout is 55 by 18 with hills and mountains of Eastern Kentucky and Pennsylvania. His time period is 1940 to 1960 pulling long drags of coal cars. The layout is fully operational and will be involved with the Kokomo Round Robin Group. This Group has operations that they interchange cars from one layout to another member's layout through a car card and waybill system. Most of Lees engines have sound - diesel and steam. Lee's main interest is electronics and construction.

Gary Sherrill
Gary has two HO layouts and both layouts are DCC Digitrax. The first one is a 4 by 8 with an addition out of the Atlas book. The second one will replace this layout. The second layout is under construction it will have two levels. On this layout Gary has hand laid all of the turnouts with code 83 track. The new layout is built for operation. He plans on using a car card and waybill system. Time period will be 1950 to 1960 from Frankfort to Kokomo (NKP RR cloverleaf). Gary' s main interest is operations. . Layout construction is cork roadbed on L-girder.

Gerald Burdick
Gerald's layout is DCC Digitrax with sound and Loco Net with JMRI software. This layout is controlled by computer or the Digitrax hand held unit. The computer can control engine speed and controls switches with the use of the mouse; there is a diagram of the layout on the monitor. His layout is HO steam in the West Virginia area – 40 car coal drags with 1930's steam working up the grade. Gerald is building a sawmill with shay motive power. Gerald models the C&O and the Travis Lumber Company on a single main line. Construction is 2” insulation board covered with plaster. Gerald's main interest is electronics and scenery. This layout has the whole family enjoying it. Gerald's wife enjoys working with the scenery and running trains.
